چکیده

In thermoacoustic scattering the scattered field consists of a propagating acoustic wave together with a non-progagational “thermal” wave of much shorter wavelength. Although the scattered field may be obtained from a Rayleigh expansion, in cases where the particle radius is small compared with the acoustic wave length, these solutions are ill-conditioned. For this reason asymptotic or perturbation solutions are sought. In many situations the radius of the scatter is comparable to the length of the thermal wave. By exploiting the non-propagational character of the thermal field we obtain an asymptotic solution for long acoustic waves that is valid over a wide range of thermal wavelengths, on both sides of the thermal resonance condition. We show that this solution gives excellent agreement with both the full solution of the coupled Helmholtz equations and experimental measurements. This treatment provides a bridge between perturbation theory approximations in the long wavelength limit and high frequency solutions to the thermal field employing the geometric theory of diffraction.

Acoustic Propagation in Dispersions in the Long Wavelength Limit

The problem of scattering of ultrasound by particles in the long wavelength limit has a well-established solution in terms of Rayleigh expansions of the scattered fields. However, this solution is ill-conditioned numerically, and recent work has attempted to identify an alternative method. The scattered fields have been expressed as a perturbation expansion in the parameter Ka (the wavenumber m...

Propagation of Incoherently Coupled Soliton Pairs in Photorefractive Crystals and their Self-Deflection

Propagation of incoherently soliton pairs in photorefractive crystals under steady-state conditions is studied. These soliton states can be generated when the two mutually incoherent optical beams with the same polarization and wavelength incident on the biased photorefractive crystal. Such soliton pairs can exist in bright-bright, dark-dark, gray-gray as well as in bright-dark types. In this p...

Quantitative Comparison of Analytical solution and Finite Element Method for investigation of Near-Infrared Light Propagation in Brain Tissue Model

Introduction: Functional Near-Infrared Spectroscopy (fNIRS) is an imaging method in which light source and detector are installed on the head; consequently, re-emission of light from human skin contains information about cerebral hemodynamic alteration. The spatial probability distribution profile of photons penetrating tissue at a source spot, scattering into the tissue, and being released at ...

Design and fabrication of an ultrasonic thermoacoustic generator using metal nanocoatings (Research Article)

In this paper, we design, simulate, and build an ultrasonic heat generator. In thermoacoustics, heat generated by the passage of alternating current through a thin conductor produces a sound wave. In this method, unlike other methods of sound production, moving parts are not used to vibrate air molecules, and as a result, the frequency response of these generators is flatter than other sound ge...

Influence of Nanoparticles Phenomena on the Peristaltic Flow of Pseudoplastic Fluid in an Inclined Asymmetric Channel with Different Wave Forms

The influence of nanofluid with different wave forms in the presence of inclined asymmetric channel on peristaltic transport of a pseudoplastic fluid is examined. The governing equations for two dimensional and two directional flows of a pseudoplastic fluid along with nanofluid are modeled and then simplified under the assumptions of long wavelength and low Reynolds number approximation. The ex...
